My journey in the world of hair and body care started in 2011 when I found myself in desperate need of a hair wax to control my curls. Up until then, I had been purchasing it from a local market stall and was unable to find a suitable replacement when the maker went on holiday. Determined to find a solution, I decided to try making it myself. After many failed attempts, including a kitchen explosion, I finally developed a formulation that worked better than the original. This led to the creation of my Lemongrass & Lime Body Balm, which was also suitable for hair and body. Along the way, I also created a hard formula that worked well as lip balm and a product that didn't absorb into hair but worked great as foot balm.

As demand for my products grew, I started selling them at local markets and through Facebook under the name Sara's Hair and Body Care. However, I took a break from the business when I moved house and didn't return to it until much later. In the meantime, I continued to make various hair, skin, and body care products for myself and my family.

The idea to relaunch my business as Magical Potions came from several sources. One was a self-care journal that asked me to identify my passions. When I remembered how much I enjoyed creating and selling my own products, I knew that making hair and body care products was my true passion. The satisfaction I felt when customers reported great results also motivated me to continue in this field.

Another prompt was when I noticed that a popular hair detangler my daughters were using was causing a scaly buildup on my youngest daughter's scalp. Upon researching the ingredients, I discovered that it contained several harmful substances that could disrupt hormones and potentially cause cancer. This led me to throw out the expensive products and start exploring ways to make my own detangler. My interest in mixing water with oil and solubilizers, emulsifiers, and preservatives led to the creation of Hair Potions and the rebirth of my passion for making hair, skin, and body care products.

The name Magical Potions came from my husband's nickname for me as the "potion maker" in our household. I have always made my own "potions" for the family to use for various ailments. I also have a habit of researching and attempting to make my own products if I think I can create something equal to or better than store-bought alternatives without harmful ingredients.
