My journey into the world of hair and body care began in 2011 when I found myself in desperate need of a hair wax to manage my curls.

I had always purchased it from a local market stall, but when the maker went on holiday, I couldn’t find a suitable replacement.

Determined to create my own solution, I embarked on a journey of trial and error—one that included multiple failed attempts and even a kitchen explosion. Eventually, I developed a formula that not only worked but was even better than the original.

This breakthrough led to the creation of my Lemongrass & Lime Body Balm, a versatile product suitable for both hair and skin. Along the way, I also formulated a firmer version that made an excellent lip balm and another variation that, while unsuitable for hair, worked wonders as a foot balm.

As demand for my products grew, I began selling them at local markets and through Facebook under the name Sara’s Hair and Body Care. However, after moving house, I took a break from the business. Even during this hiatus, I continued crafting hair, skin, and body care products for myself and my family.

The idea to relaunch my business as Magical Potions came from several inspirations. One was a self-care journal that encouraged me to reflect on my passions. I realized how much I had loved creating and sharing my products, and the joy of helping others with natural alternatives reignited my enthusiasm.

Another pivotal moment came when I noticed that a popular hair detangler my daughters were using was causing a scaly buildup on my youngest daughter’s scalp. Curious, I researched its ingredients and was shocked to find that it contained harmful substances linked to hormone disruption and even cancer. That discovery led me to toss out the expensive products and experiment with making my own detangler.

 

My exploration of solubilizers, emulsifiers, and preservatives ultimately led to the creation of Hair Potions—and the revival of my passion for hair, skin, and body care.

The name Magical Potions was inspired by my husband, who affectionately calls me the "potion maker" of our household. For years, I’ve created my own “potions” for my family, always striving to craft natural, effective alternatives to store-bought products. If I believe I can make something better and safer, I can’t resist the challenge.
